On the ancient peak of Rome, the sunlight broke through the clouds, casting golden rays that made the white clouds shimmer like silver. Arthur stood at the summit, gazing at a scene of beauty he had never seen before. His heart was filled with anticipation for the future, and his face beamed with a confident smile. The companions around him had begun to busy themselves; some were picking up small stones from the path, while others were dusting off their clothes, and laughter floated down into the valley with the wind.
"Look, how beautiful those little flowers are!" a girl named Olivia exclaimed, pointing at a cluster of blooming mountain flowers. The flowers swayed with the wind, vibrant in color, like a girl’s skirt dancing lightly in the spring breeze, making one unable to help but be captivated by this wonderful moment.
"I'll help you tidy up this area," another friend, named Victor, also joined Olivia. He was tall and strong, always filled with enthusiasm for outdoor activities. Not only was he a source of strength for the group, but he was also the joy of everyone’s hearts, always able to bridge distances with his humorous words.
"Arthur, you come help too! We need your suggestions," Olivia turned around, her smile welcoming. Her eyes were like clear lake water, instilling a sense of warmth.
"Of course, I would love to!" Arthur responded without hesitation, his voice filled with excitement. At that moment, a passion to help others ignited within him; it was one of the purposes of their climb. They had agreed that today, they would not only enjoy the beauty of the journey, but also do something meaningful together, allowing nature to respond to their enthusiasm and kindness.
They placed fragrant flowers on small stones by the side of the path, so that travelers could feel the beauty of nature along their way. Not far away, an elderly man strolled leisurely, carrying a basket of vegetables. Although the old man’s face was deeply wrinkled, his smile was especially warm.
"You young people, this is truly beautiful! Ever since I took on responsibilities, I haven’t seen such splendid flowers," the old man sincerely praised.
"We hope that everyone passing by can feel this beauty," Arthur replied confidently as he and his friends walked towards the old man.
"Bringing joy to others makes this mountaintop even more enchanting," the old man sat down slowly, pulling out some freshly picked vegetables from his basket to share with Arthur and his friends, "These are grown by me; thank you for your kindness."
Arthur, Olivia, and Victor looked at each other in surprise at the old man’s generosity, an unexpected delight they had not anticipated. They exchanged knowing smiles and nodded slightly, indicating their consensual thoughts. To return the old man’s kindness, they decided to help him on the way down, safely delivering the vegetables to his home.
"Grandpa, wait a moment, we can help you carry them so it's easier for you,” Victor suggested, his eyes gleaming with determination.
The old man gratefully nodded; hearing the young man’s proposal, he couldn’t help but laugh, "This is wonderful, young man! My house is just at the edge of the village, and my legs aren’t very convenient. With your help, it will be much easier for me!"
Along the way, Arthur struck up a casual chat with the old man, learning that he was a former farmer who could no longer work due to an injury, and that this basket of vegetables was urgently needed. Arthur couldn’t help but think of his parents, and a wave of gratitude washed over him for the people who worked hard for their lives. He became even more resolute in his decision to help others with his own hands.
"Grandpa, did you serve as the village chief before?" Arthur asked.
The old man showed a wistful expression and slowly said, "Yes, during that time I was full of vitality like you. Every decision was made with the prosperity of the village in mind. However, as I got older, responsibilities became heavier, and sometimes it can be helpless."
"But look, all of this was not in vain. Moments like today make me realize the value of hard work," Arthur said with respect in his tone.
At that moment, Olivia remarked lightly, “To make your followers do the same is not easy!”
The old man laughed heartily, dismissing her playfulness, “You young people always seem so full of vigor. But without the guidance of experience, you might get a bit lost, which is something I hope you will remember.”
“We definitely will, we will firmly remember what I’ve learned from you!” Arthur clenched his fist confidently.
When they arrived at the old man’s humble abode, everyone was amazed by the surrounding environment. The house was nestled in a vibrant garden; small flowers swayed in the breeze, and the surrounding vegetables thrived as if welcoming their arrival. The old man, holding the basket of vegetables with gratitude, called out loudly, "Children, come in! Sit down and rest, I’ll brew some fragrant tea!"
Arthur and his friends hesitated for a moment at the door, but quickly entered the nostalgic atmosphere. The old man’s interior was simply decorated, with a few self-painted landscapes of fields on the walls, and a simple bookshelf by the window holding books filled with hopes and dreams.
"Wow, it feels so warm here!" Olivia said in surprise, her gaze lingering on the bookshelf.
The old man returned holding a teapot and smiled, “This is chrysanthemum tea that I picked myself; it’s fragrant and pleasant, just right to refresh the young people!” He placed the teapot on the table and poured the fragrant tea into porcelain cups, catching the attention of the four youths.
"How nice, I love this taste; it feels like I’m back beside my mother!" Victor carefully picked up the cup, his face beaming with joy. Arthur looked at his friend's reaction, feeling a warm glow inside. The friendship among friends was just like this tea, rich and full of emotion.
The old man gently tapped the table and said meaningfully, “Young friends, although you are young, you hold the power to change the future. As long as you do it with heart, the smiles of others will be your greatest reward.”
This statement struck a chord in Arthur’s heart, and accompanied by the scent of tea, he felt as if he heard the call of the future. He looked up, his eyes shining with excitement, and cast a determined gaze at the old man. “Grandpa, thank you. We will cherish your words and work together to make the future shine brighter!”
The old man smiled and wiped the corner of his eye with his hand, as if holding onto stories of the past. They sat together, their warm laughter illuminating every corner, and at that moment, time seemed to stand still. In this tranquility, they continued to share their dreams and courage. No matter what the future held, they had jointly penned an indelible chapter of friendship in this ancient and beautiful place.
That night, they let go of all their worries in the lush village, deeply falling into a peaceful sleep. Countless stars hung in the sky, quietly casting down a glow of happiness, illuminating the hearts of these young people. From then on, the seeds of friendship took root in their hearts, and they would one day pass this virtue and brilliance on to more travelers and friends.
