Dansende dromen van zilverlicht onder de ijzige zee

Antarctica is a silent yet sparkling world full of miracles. On the vast snow-white ice fields, the cold wind howls, and snowflakes drift down like fairies, covering the cracked ice layers. Under the night sky, the aurora slowly rises, like a colorful ribbon dancing in the celestial dome. Even in this frigid land, life pulsates with resilience and gentleness, quietly nurturing a hope that belongs to the polar regions. Deep within this boundless ice field hides a mysterious and elegant figure—the mermaid Lancer.

Lancer is a mermaid from the cold sea currents, and her scales shimmer with a silver-blue luster under the moonlight. Her long hair flows like a galaxy in the night sky, interwoven with shades of blue and platinum, swaying with the waves. Lancer's eyes are clear as an ice lake, yet they hide a comforting warmth. For many years, Lancer has guarded this ice field, becoming the silent protector of the snowy nights. She seldom appears, always quietly watching everything from the cold sea, until one day, she heard a helpless cry.

Lancer swam through the currents beneath the solid ice, getting closer to the ice layer that surfaced. She felt the vibrations of life coming from the ice field above; it was a few young penguins lost in the snowdrifts after a storm. She gently poked her head above the water, being careful of her surroundings, so as not to frighten these timid creatures.

The cries of the penguin group were faint yet urgent. Lancer collected their breaths and slowly approached a small ice valley trapped by rocks and snow. The penguins huddled together, trembling, and one little penguin softly squawked, its wings trapped by broken ice, struggling to escape.

Lancer slowly stretched out her delicate white hand, gently stroking the trapped little penguin. "Don't be afraid, I will help you." Her voice was as soft as the first snow covering the ice field, instantly calming the little penguins' panic.

Everyone held their breath and watched as Lancer focused her fingers skillfully, picking away the broken ice piece by piece, careful to avoid scratching the little penguin's fluffy feathers. She turned her head to a small penguin, anxiously watching nearby, and said, "Come help me a little; gently push this rock away, can you do it?"

The penguin named Norse blinked its round black eyes, first hesitating to look at Lancer, then glancing at the trapped companions. Finally, it nibbled its wings and joined Lancer in helping. Together, they pushed away the larger rocks, creating a gap. Lancer carefully lifted the trapped penguin, soothing it gently, and then whispered, "Don't be afraid, your friends are right here. I will help you get the ice off your wings."

She gently blew warm breath over the little penguin's frozen wings, a faint glow flowing from her palms to the penguin’s body, gradually melting the ice into little droplets. The refreshing droplets rolled onto the snow, like tiny stars. The penguin group, witnessing this, joyfully embraced each other, and the loneliness of being lost suddenly vanished.

"Who are you?" Norse asked, his eyes wide open and cautiously. "So beautiful, and you can help us disperse the ice and snow."

"I am Lancer, living in this cold sea, guarding everyone here," Lancer replied with a gentle smile. "Antarctica is very cold, but warmth can also be fostered here, as long as we keep watch over each other."

The penguins gathered around Lancer, listening as she softly sang the ancient polar ballad. The aurora gradually elongated, as if the sky adorned her song with the most beautiful colors. That night, every penguin quietly remembered this voice and those gentle hands, and Lancer cultivated the forgotten hope beneath the ice field with her kindness.

But the nights in Antarctica are never too peaceful. One day, a blizzard came from the other side of the sea, seemingly ready to swallow all life. The blizzard howled, overturning many penguin homes, the ice layer cracked, and many young lives were plunged into crisis.

Lancer rose from beneath the sea, feeling the painful breaths of the entire ice field. She immediately swam toward the danger, lurking beneath the ice, attentive to every tiny call amidst the wind and snow. At that moment, she noticed two young penguins trapped in a deep ice trench by the heavy snow. The wind was picking up, and the snow was piling higher, the two little penguins were making mournful sounds.

Without hesitation, Lancer called forth a gentle current from the cold sea, gliding through the ice below. "Don't be afraid, spread your wings, look up here; I will pull you up." Lancer's warm voice, though not weak in the strong wind, carried a reassuring courage.

"I... I... we can't move..." One of the little penguins, named Sophie, trembled in response, her tone tinged with a slight whimper from the cold.

"It's okay, I'm right here. No matter what happens, I will be with you," Lancer gently extended her tail fin from the ice crevice, allowing the two little penguins to slowly climb up her shimmering fin.

"Won't you be cold like this?" Sophie asked curiously.

"As long as I can help you, this cold becomes warm," Lancer gently patted their trembling little bodies.

Lancer softly embraced the two little penguins with her flexible arms, then quietly sang an ancient melody on the ice surface. "The faint light in your heart lasts longer than the aurora; beneath the cold night, tenderness coexists with you." The song felt like a warm hearth in the snowy night, providing comfort to all the lost little lives. The wind and snow gradually eased, and the aurora shone even more brightly in the night sky.

In the dark, Lancer saw more penguins trapped, and she immediately launched a rescue. She darted like silver-blue lightning among the glaciers, finding every life that was trapped. Whenever a penguin was successfully rescued, Lancer would carefully check their injuries, comforting the crying chicks and encouraging the adult penguins who wanted to give up.

Once, a little penguin named Kansi fell into a bottomless ice cave. He closed his eyes, filled only with fear. Lancer sensed his presence and dove into that dark cave without hesitation.

Inside, it was pitch black, making one feel as if falling into an abyss. "Kansi, can you hear my voice?" Lancer's voice rang out like the first faint light in the night sky.

"Y-you really came? I'm so scared..." Kansi's voice was small and trembled.

Lancer immediately swam closer, gently holding him in her arms, providing warmth from her palms to dispel the cold, while softly saying, "You are not alone; sometimes difficulties frighten us, but as long as there are friends and hope accompanying us, we can cross this shadow."

Little by little, Lancer's gentle words soothed Kansi, helping him gather his courage. Then, she arched her body into a bridge, allowing him to carefully climb up her gill fins to rise from the ice cave. When Kansi finally stepped onto the snow, the darkness of the ice cave was dispelled by Lancer's song, and the entire ice field echoed the mermaid's comforting melody.

After that day, the penguin family knew that in this cold southern land, there was a warm and strong protector. Whenever the wind blew and snow fell on the ice field, the penguins gathered together, often looking up at the sky filled with auroras. They understood that as long as the auroras continued to shine, Lancer's protection would not cease.

Soon after, the penguin family faced a dilemma: a large-scale melting of the ice field suddenly occurred, and many chicks had to migrate to safer places as quickly as possible, but the young penguins, who had not yet learned to walk far, could only move slowly, and the leading elder could not decide the best route at that moment.

Lancer appeared on the shore. "We cannot hesitate now. The ice surface has cracked; you must quickly pass through the strongest passages. Trust me, I will lead you."

The elder asked, "How can we be sure which are safe? If we take a wrong step, everyone will be in danger."

Lancer looked towards the wobbling ice layer, sensing the changes in the current. "Look towards the direction of the aurora above; that is home. The flow of water beneath the ice will indicate the most stable positions. Please have Norse and Kansi lead everyone along my path; just stick close to me, I will guide you."

The penguins lined up as Lancer instructed. She moved between the ice crevices, her silver-blue scales shimmering in the water like auroras falling onto the snow. With each step forward, she gently touched the ice surface below, confirming its thickness, and then motioned for the penguins to follow closely behind. Lancer kept reminding them: "Walk lightly, maintain distance from each other, and do not rush."

"Sister Lancer, how do you always know what we need?" Kansi asked quietly while walking.

Lancer smiled and said, "Your heartfelt voices quietly flow into the ocean, and as long as I listen, I can sense your worries and your bravery."

The penguins looked at Lancer's gentle and determined back, putting all their unease behind them. While crossing the glacier, a few steep cracks frightened the little penguins nearby. Lancer would immediately swim close, gently supporting their little feet with her fins, smiling gently, "You're doing great, don't be afraid. Ahead is a more open land."

After the treacherous path across the ice field, the penguins finally reached a new habitat safely. The elders excitedly thanked Lancer, "Without you, we wouldn't know what to do. Thank you so much for your kindness and courage."

Lancer responded with a smile, "This ice field has nurtured your cuteness and strength; guarding each other is my greatest joy. I hope one day, you can also bring warmth to friends in need."

The first ray of dawn scattered between the clouds, the auroras faded, but the penguins' hope seemed even clearer. Lancer looked at her friends who had come this far, filled with tenderness and joy. No matter how long the Antarctic night, this beauty and kindness would continue with every morning.

From then on, in this ice field where the auroras shine, Lancer's story became a warm legend of protection for the penguin family. The children would sit in a circle on the ice field, gazing at the sky, often saying, "As long as there is kindness and hope in our hearts, Lancer will surely hear our voices."

Every night, the auroras reappeared, and Lancer's figure flickered between the ice and the waves, while the song of kindness and beauty continued to spread throughout the Antarctic ice field.
